Don't get a smaller one!!!! Feb 17, 2010
By J. David I am recovering from pneumonia and my PCP recommended I get an Incentive Spirometer due to bring mostly bedridden post-surgery. I had no idea what kind or size to get and relied mostly on Amazon reviews. I was not disappointed in any way with this unit or with Medical Department Stores who shipped it within 12 hours and I got it with free shipping in only 3 business days.
An IS is a very simple plastic device. Not much to go wrong unless it cracks. I discovered, after receiving this 5000ml capacity model that my "normal" value should be about 3250ml. Most of the other units on Amazon top out at 2500ml. For the record, I am a 40 year old, 6'1" male. According to the charts I've seen, 2500ml is only enough to measure someone who is 5'5" or shorter.

Spirometers help breathing Feb 18, 2008
By Diana C. Cook I've been using a Volvdyne 5000 spirometer for about 2 1/2 months now. It is an excellent device because it helps you measure how well you can breathe and it helps you improve your breathing. It's easy to use. You place the mouthpiece in your mouth, exhale completely and then inhale slowly. The device shows a measurement because a plastic cylinder rises along with your breath. It takes some effort to get a top rating. When I started I was under 3000, and I now (only) manage 4250, but my athletic trainer can go up to the top rating which is 5000. The more you use it, the better you can perform. I think it's well worth the price.

Good for building lung capacity Jan 06, 2009
By Living Well in CA

I have a respiratory condition and want to build/maintain lung capacity. This handly little device is an easy way to do so at home. It works well and its use is pretty self-explanatory, though the one thing that would have improved my buying experience would have been to receive more detailed instructions on its use for optimal results.

Excellent Medical Device Aug 11, 2011

This is a very well-designed and well-made spirometer. This one is designed for inhalation, so you don't have to clean it as often as one that you blow through. It's a fairly large device, and I like that. In addition to the other features noted in the item description, it has a sliding indicator on the right-side volumetric barrel that lets you set your goal value, or you can set it to your last measurement so that you can see if you are improving. This Voldyne unit is much better than the ones used in the local hospitals, and at the current Amazon price, it is a true bargain.

spirometer Jun 21, 2011
By Doris Lloyd Having used an identical product in the hospital, I was already familiar with this spirometer. The order was received promptly and was packaged securely.
