Help with Hammer Toe Pain - Especially for People with PD Mar 26, 2011
By Charles, a composer and educator
"Charles of Michigan"
I have found these Silipos Pure Gel Hammer Toe "pads" helpful in controlling hammer-toe episodes that I experience daily. The pain, which can be severe and can prevent me from walking, is a symptom of my Parkinson's disease. While they cannot prevent the hammer-toe episodes by themselves (i.e., without my PD medication), I've found that these pads can reduce the severity of the episodes and help control the pain. . The pads are flexible, easy to clean, relatively inexpensive, and they seem to be well made. I recommend them, but choosing the right kind (right foot or left foot) and size is not as easy or straightforward as it might seem at first. Through trial and error (and an ordering mistake), I've ordered both right- and left-foot pads in two different sizes. Interestingly, I've found that the type/size that works best for me depends on the kind of shoe I'm wearing and the type of activity I'm engaged in (standing, walking, sitting, etc.). Often I use a right-foot pad on my right foot, but I wear it "backwards" (i.e., with the wide part of the pad closest to my smaller toes), and I've found that a left-foot pad can be used effectively on my right foot. Also, I had to try wearing the pads on different toes (there is a loop that goes over one or two toes to hold the pad in place) to figure out what worked best. Depending on the size of the pad and how you wear it, prolonged use can become very uncomfortable; on the other hand, I've found that I can wear a smaller pad all day without any discomfort, if placed correctly on the toes.

RELIEF!!! Nov 01, 2010
By music lover I found this product on the recommendation of my physical therapist. I am recovering from knee surgery, and mentioned that my foot hurt a lot. He looked at it and noticed one of my toes was curving down significantly. He first suggested a metatarsal pad, and when that didn't work, suggested the toe pad. Almost instant relief!!! If you're starting to get hammertoes, get one of these! It not only cushions your toes, but it puts them back in their proper alignment (at least when you're wearing it). I found it most comfortable in running shoes, but I now wear it in dress shoes as well. If at first it seems uncomfortable and kind of bulgy, be assured that after you wear it a few times, the weight of your foot will cause it to get a little flatter and more comfortable, while still doing the job.
