Sturdy product Feb 08, 2011
By joyous High quality material; very firm. Has not lost shape or gotten squishy despite a goodly amount of use. Also, chunks of the ends don't "break off" in little pieces. Rolls muscles well--great for post-run or -workout stretching. I'm not of very large stature, so it fits well; if I were bigger, I would opt to get the 36 inch size.
Does the Job. Firmness just nice. Mar 31, 2012
By Mike I happen to think the length of 18 inch is the perfect length for a foam roller, 12" is a little short and 36" is too long. 18" is long enough to roll both calves or quads simultaneously. Also nice enough to put it against a wall to roll at a lower intensity without the excess length.
When I first got this, I was surprised how light it was compared to my other foam roller (which has a closed cell kind of foam). This has beaded foam and rolling on these, I found the firmness just nice. 3 month in, the foam has not caved in yet.
I didn't give it a full rating because one end of the roller is not finished properly i.e. it seems they took a full length 36" roller and saw them into two parts so they can sell two 18" pieces.
Personally, I used this roller on the IT band, lats, calves and back. I found myself needing the firmness of the PVC for hamstrings and glutes, and a tennis/ lacrosse ball or a pair taped together for more specific and stubborn knots. I would recommend everyone to also seek out a cheap PVC pipe locally of roughly similar diameter for glutes and piriformis. Not only do they feel denser, but using the PVC pipe in place foam roller for hamstrings and glutes will help prolong the durability of the foam roller since those parts tend to put most pressure and weight.
Do not use PVC pipe on the lumbar or cervical spine under any circumstances and also most areas which are bonier.
Rooer is dense but needs to be packaged better Mar 05, 2012
By wjm Product is made of a dense foam yet is only wrapped packaged in a plastic vacuum tight bag. Dents easilly when shipped. Merchant is very responsive and sent out a replacement that arrived within 2 days.
Good for Pilates Oct 13, 2011
By Stephan Dr. Görisch The OPTP Axis Roller, designed for use in Pilates exercise, so far has proven superior in use to products previously known to us.
However, we would rather not make a statement as to its service life, at this time.
