I have MS (multiple sclerosis), and my neurologist prescribed physical therapy for me. We worked on balance, fall prevention, and getting up after a fall. While we were working on balance, my therapist used the gait belt to help me whenever I started to lose my balance.
I was so impressed with what that belt could do that I wanted one that my husband could use in helping me with balance exercises, and I was delighted when I found this belt. It was exactly like the one my physical therapist uses, and she was amazed when I told her how little I paid for it.

I use this belt to help my father (who's had a stroke and has mobility problems) - it's similar to the gait belt that his therapists gave him year ago.
It's strong, comfortable (within reason) and able to fit around a larger person's size (my father's 200 lbs and about a 45 inch stomach.
You will be be grateful you have this belt in emergencies. My father can mostly get up and out of his wheelchair BUT when he's ill, he becomes weak and immobile. Then I really need the belt to help him and it's a lifesaver.
Also, I help him exercise at the gym and the belt makes transfers to the machines very easy. WHen he does his short walks for exercise, I can steady him by holding the belt.
We bought three: one for the car, one to keep in his backpack and the other for the bedroom. You never know when you'll need this belt; my mother and sisters' are able to use it in when I'm away and it's invaluable.

Bought this for my Dad who has Parkinson's. Fits well and securely. Having this belt for the home health staff to use allows my Dad to walk with minimal fear of falling. Recommended.

This is the same gait belt that we use at the nursing home; that's why I bought it to use for my mom. It's strong and safe and doesn't irritate her skin. It costs a lot more at our local medical supply store! I love that Amazon gives me the opportunity to buy things I need without killing my checkbook!

This gait belt is strong and durable and definitely does the job, BUT it does not have the buckle pictured. This belt has the metal slip buckle and not the clasp buckle as shown.
