Label Information:
Ingredients: Kinesio Taping® alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. The taped portion forms convolutions in the skin, thus increasing interstitial space. The result is that pressure and irritation are taken off the neural and sensory receptors, alleviating pain. Pressure is gradually taken off the lymphatic system, allowing it to channel more freely
Indications: The Kinesio Taping® Method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. The first technique gives the practitioner the opportunity to actually give support while maintaining full range of motion. This enables the individual to participate in their normal physical activity with functional assistance. The second technique, which is most commonly used in the acute stage of rehabilitation, helps prevent overuse or over-contraction and helps provide facilitation of lymph flow for an entire 24 hour period. Correctional techniques include mechanical, lymphatic, ligament/tendon, fascia, space and functional. Kinesio Tex® Tape can be used in conjunction with other therapies, including cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, massage therapy, and electrical stimulation.

5Stuck on KT Tape  Apr 18, 2010
By gym rat
This tape is used by a lot of health professionals, such as chiropractors, physical therapists, etc. for good reasons, such as:

-its water resistant
-the stuff is really sticky and stays on
-it can be used on many different parts/joints of the body
-its stretchy

If you're looking for some good, all purpose versatile tape to brace an area, such as a knee, or a wrist or elbow, give it a try! Also recommend Treat Your Own Tennis Elbow if you need more options for tennis elbow.

5You need to know what you are doing...  Aug 20, 2010

I am a CKTP...or Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner. I am also a sports med. doctor and treat amateur and professional athletes. I can attest to the fact that you need a good knowledge of kinesiology and biomechanics to maximize the effects of this tape. The tape can be used to facilitate and inhibit muscle function, mechanically correct joint and soft tissue issues, functionally correct impaired movement patterns, and is great for lymph/circulation issues.

The problem nowadays is that every runner/triathlete/athlete want to go out and buy this tape, or Rocktape, and slap it on. Mind you, if it's applied incorrectly, you risk significant damage to your body. For example, if you wish to facilitate a muscle and you end up inhibiting it, you can do yourself a lot of harm, especially over the course of a sporting event.

It's best to see a CKTP before you play around with this stuff. Unless you know your anatomy and kinesiology at a very high level, this tape should not be used. Sure, people don't want to see a professional as it means taking time, a co-pay, etc...but, being you can alter the function of your musculoskeletal system, it's probably worth it to know the correct application of the tape for your issue(s) before you do something that could potentially create harm.

Just my two cents.

5Great product!  Aug 22, 2011
By James S Lee
As a physician, I was doubtful about the ability of this type of taping in helping my knee and back. However, I was talked into it by a friend. I was pleasently surprised and it has given me an alternative to wearing a Professional Donjoy knee brace. It is comfortable and surprisingly supportive. I would recommend that if you are interested find a certified kinesio taping practitioner in your area.

5Great tape if you've been shown how to use it!  Oct 10, 2011
By M&M
Don't buy this tape unless you've been told that you need it and shown how to use it. I asked my doctor for a single visit to a physical therapist, who evaluated the problem (patellofemoral syndrome, i.e. kneecaps not tracking correctly) and showed me exactly which way my knees were mistracking and how to apply the tape to make them track correctly. If you're an average person without a physical therapy or M.D. background, you won't be able to figure out which way your personal knees need to go and how to apply the tape on your own. There are Youtube videos, but how do you know your particular knees need the same thing? You could actually be making the problem worse. If you can't afford a doctor's visit, try a brace instead.

If, on the other hand, you've been shown what to do, the Kinesio Tex Tape Gold (gold refers to the type, not a color) is great because it's sturdier and holds up much better than the regular. It can even be worn for up to three days (yes, it holds up in the shower) if you're someone who runs every day and needs the support. Just dry it with the blow-dryer on cold (hot can make it melt to your skin -- ouch!).
