TempurPedic "The Neck Pillow" BEST EVER PILLOW FOR A BAD NECK Jan 11, 2010
By gilly8
"gilly8"
I've used a TempurPedic "Neck Pillow" size small for several years. I have bulging discs in my cervical spine (neck) which impinge on the nerves of my shoulders, due to an accident. I see a Pain doctor and a Neurologist for this problem...I have tried, over many years, all kinds of pillows, including the ones with little beads or beans (?) in them, various types in stores or onling recommended for the neck/shoulder area...this was by far the most expensive but is definitely worth it.
NO you cannot return this pillow...or, I think, by law, any pillow you have used. That is not Amazon or TempurPedic that is a law pertaining to health/ prevention of disease. Of course at a garage sale or whatever you can find used pillows, mattresses and so on, but then its' buyer beware!
Not sure what odor the other posters refer to. All new items have some type of odor. With a pillowcase on the pillow I've never even noticed an odor. Put two pillow cases on, one zippered, if you're really bothered, and take them off to let the pillow "air out" in the daytime, thats just a suggestion, as I said I never noticed a problem.
I did have to "learn" to flip the pillow, so that if I was on my back ---as I try to be all night---my head is on the thinner part of the pillow. If I do feel I have to lie on my side --I flip the pillow so that the thick portion is under my side-lying neck/shoulder, for support. Its become an ingrained habit now, that I don't think about or even wake up consciously to do. It helps tremendously in decreasing (not entirely, but partially) neck spasms and headaches due to sleeping. I think almost anyone with a "bad neck" can relate.
Its worth a try if you're really suffering. Just be very aware of what size you're getting. I'm 5'2" and I need the small size pillow. There is a medium and large size on the TempurPedic site; I know Amazon carries the large size. The difference is in the thickness of the "thin" portion of the pillow. 3" on the small; 4" on the medium and large pillows.
Highly recommended for anyone with a painful condition of neck or shoulders, and pain during the night or when you wake up in the morning.

Be Cautious Aug 08, 2009
By Holly Unfortunately this pillow was a waste of money for me. I had two issues which made it unusable:
First, the smell never entirely dissipated and caused allergy problems for my husband. They claim that these are hypo-allergenic, but this was not the case for us.
Second, this actually CAUSED me to develop neck pain. I've used cheaper foam pillows in the past with no problem, but something about this one wreaked havoc on my neck. I stopped using the pillow after about a month and the pain was gone in a week!
This was an extremely disappointing experience, made even more so by Tempur-Pedic's refusal to accept returns and lack of concern with the issues caused.

Herniated disc in my neck Feb 08, 2010

I love this pillow and won't even think about using a regular pillow. I had an MRI and the physician said my cervical spine looked like that of someone 20 years older. This was mainly due to a car accident I had been in as a teenager. If you've had neck problems I HIGHLY recommend this pillow. And, frankly, I'm pretty sensitive to smells and this one did not bother me at all. Frankly, even if it was covered with offensive perfume I would likely use it because it helps my health so much. Having a herniated cervical disc is definitely no fun.

TERRIBLE ITEM Jan 02, 2010

This pillow has a most offensive smell that prevents its use as intended. The oder is absolutely awful. The item did arrive on time and feels good to the touch and was the right size. You just cannot get near it. Since not a direct Amazon item now dealing with the seller for refund info though from other reviews with similar problems that does not look hopeful. Thank you.

Becareful Order the wrong size and you're stuck Jul 25, 2009
By David in the suburbs I ordered the wrong size which was too small and the particular seller won't take refunds or exchanges because you "tried it on" so to speak. Lesson for me to read the seller's refund/exchange policy next time tempurpedic wouldn't have had this policy.
