Biofreeze is my favorite topical analgesic Aug 29, 2010
By BonesighNYC I've tried a number of topical analgesics, and Biofreeze is my favorite. Most of these products that use menthol as the main ingredient as very similar in pain relief effectiveness. This is a pump type spray, so it is not pressurized. Be aware of this in the event that you think you may have a problem using the pump action button (perhaps due to bad arthritis in your fingers, in which case you may want to try Freezeit pressurized spray which also works great). I took off one star because the photo in this product listing indicates "New Formula now with MSM," while the product that I received does not have the new MSM formula and the bottles look different than what is pictured in the product listing. I really don't care about the lack of MSM, but I am a firm believer in accurately depicting the product for sale in any product listing. But the Biofreeze is as effective as always, so I'm still happy with the purchase.

Putting the "Ilex" into Biofreeze Aug 13, 2010

Putting the "Ilex" into Biofreeze:
How is the Ilex in Biofreeze extracted from the holly shrub? While of course the process is proprietary to the makers of Biofreeze, Ilex is brewed from the holly leaf and then evaporated to form a powder which through a proprietary process is included in just the right amount into Biofreeze. I would not recommend your trying this yourself as the holly plant is generally considered to be toxic except to certain birds. Do not eat or allow your children to eat the (red) holly berries or leaves of the holly shrub; it's toxic in this form.
Biofreeze's shelf life is two years, and you can find the expiration date located on the package. Thus order only what you think you will use within a two year period.
Biofreeze with Ibel comes in these forms: Gel, Gel with Hands-Free Applicator (I haven't tried this form yet, but plan to do so soon), Wipes, Spray, Tubes and Pump Bottles, Roll On, and Packets. My favorite way of application is using the Biofreeze spray. One of the most helpful uses of the spray is applying it to two of my finger knuckles that suffer from arthritis; after which the pain begins to subside and movement is easier -- this takes repeated daily applications to make the most progress. The spray allows one to apply it to hard-to-reach areas, such as the middle back and lower extremities; and you don't get it over your hands when applying it. For me and my wife the spray seems to get the right amount on and it seems to be best absorbed, but I have no scientific proof of this.
Even though with the spray you don't get it on your hands and fingers please be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after application and avoid touching any where close to your eyes.
You will find Biofreeze spray in a much larger bottle here on Amazon, but this size is more convenient and portable. It is not a wonder potion, but it does help me the most of any product like it; I hope it works for you too.

Loving "BioFreeze Mar 17, 2011
By kathymac I love this product as it feels great and helps to relieve the pain from a severe back problem. It goes on easily and dries quickly! Sometimes I like to use the spray and sometimes the gel, depending on my mood. I most likely will continue buying both applications. Try it, you may even like it like I do!

Wrong item shipped. Oh well. Mar 16, 2012

I was excited to see this in spray form because I always manage to get this stuff in my eyes, even after washing my hands. The printed label on the box claimed it was the spray form. When I opened it, however, I discovered it was actually the gel. This isn't the end of my world, but I am disappointed. I could ship it back and attempt to get what I ordered, but I am afraid that the same error will be made again (especially since after reading the feedback from others, I see I am not the only one with this experience). Also, I purchased this because of a painful ankle injury. This is not what I wished to buy, but it works okay so I decided to keep it rather than spend more time in agony while I await a replacement.
I don't think I would buy this from Amazon again, only because of the error.
